Tengrinews.kz — Since the beginning of April, more than thirty people have sought medical help after tick bites in the Kostanay Region, according to 24.kz.
As the report notes, the insects became active due to rising air temperatures. At the same time, epidemiologists describe the situation as stable. The number of bites is almost at the level of last year. This year, they are most often being recorded in Kostanay, Rudny, and the Karabalyk district.
For research purposes, specialists from the National Center of Expertise will collect two thousand ticks, which will be tested for infections. Over the past 10 years, no samples with encephalitis or borreliosis have been detected in the region.
It is explained that preventive treatment of the area against ticks will be carried out only at countryside recreation centers and children’s health camps.
“Even taking into account that the territory is non-endemic, disinsection measures are carried out to ensure comfortable outdoor recreation. Monitoring of virus circulation in ticks is being conducted. For this, ticks are collected annually. In addition to tick-borne encephalitis, we will also look for tularemia, leptospirosis, and other infections,” explained Gulim Dosumova, deputy head of the Kostanay Region Department of Sanitary and Epidemiological Control.
