Akim (Mayor) of Almaty Akhmetzhan Yessimov gave the exact amount of trees in the city: 1 371 000 trees, Tengrinews.kz reports.
“I don’t understand why many insist that our trees are being swept away. Who would need to cut down trees that are in normal condition?! As if there is nothing else to do. Trees are indeed being cut in places of multi-level junction constructions and widening of the city roads. But if we cut down one tree, we plant two to replace them,” the Akim said at the press lunch on June 25.
According to Gulnar Sarzhanova, Head of Natural Resources and Natural Management Regulation Department of Almaty City Administration (Akimat), nearly 16 thousand trees have been planted by the end of this spring in Almaty. The total of 6000 trees have been cut since the beginning of the year. And at this total amount of trees cut during the three last years made 18 thousand.
