Two 5th graders were rescued by policemen after falling through the ice on Akbulak river in Astana, Tengrinews reports citing the official website of the city. On March 13, two 11 y.o. kids were walking back home after training at Alatau sports complex. The tired boys decided to take a shortcut and go straight crossing the Akbulak river. At the same time, police officers Beisov and Musa-Namaz were on their way to the sports complex. Seeing two children in trouble the police officers rescued them and after giving first aid called the ambulance. The ambulance brought children to the Children’s Hospital for a check up. The Emergency Situations Department of Astana has issued a warning that ice on rivers and lakes is treacherous and very dangerous because of the temperature changes. “The ice in places of strong currents, creeks, side streams and near bushes is very fragile,” the Department warned.
