Independent public commission to monitor investigation of Arkankergen tragedy

An independent public commission will be created for assistance to the objective investigation of the deadly accident at Arkankergen border post in Almaty oblast, Interfax-Kazakhstan reports. "The public representatives are confident that there is a lot of unclear details in the tragic events at the border post and in apprehension of the young guard. Assistance to objective investigation of the events of May 30 will be rendered by the public commission," the message of Aman-Saulyk public fund states. According to the information, the commission will include several public persons and heads of non-government organizations. On May 30 a border patrol unit at the Sary Bokter frontier post discovered the burnt down Arkankergen border post with 14 out of its 15 frontier border guards dead. The 15th guard, 19-year-old Vladislav Chelakh, was found alive. Earlier Tengrinews.kz English reported that Vladislav Chelakh confessed of killing 14 of his fellow servicemen at Arkankergen frontier post on May 30, blaming internal conflicts and mental breakdown for the tragedy.
