Troy filmmaker will chair jury at 8th Eurasia Film Festival

German director Wolfgang Petersen, famous for his movies Troy, The Perfect Storm and Poseidon will chair the jury of the 8th Eurasia Film Festival that will be held in Almaty, Tengrinews.kz reports. Petersen will also give master-classes and tell about the shooting process he directed when he worked on his movies. Kazakhstan director Amir Karakulov will represent Kazakhstan in the jury. His Virtual Love will be screened during the opening ceremony of the Film Festival. The plot develops in two spaces – real and virtual ones. Bibigul Suyunshalina and Artur Smolyaninov are starring in this youth drama. 16 Kazakhstan movies will be shown as part of the Festival. These movies have been finished in the period of September 2011 – September 2012. The first Kazakhstan fantasy movie Book of Legends: Mysterious Wood by Akhat Ibrayev will make its debut at Eurasia Film Festival. The 25-y.o. film director was using only Kazakhstan computer graphics experts to work on his project. It took them two years to make the graphics and effects for the movie. 12 European, Asian, CIS and Central Asian movies will be screened as part of the official selection of the International Eurasia Film Festival. Thomas Vinterberg’s The Hunt, the movie that was demonstrated as part of Cannes Festival’s official selection this year, will become one of the European movies at the Festival. South Korean Poongsan directed by Juhn Jai-hong will represent Asian Films. Russian Alexey Mizgerev will bring his new The Convoy movie to the Kazakhstan festival. Kazakhstan actor Azamat Nigmanov is starring in the movie. Organizers of the Eurasia Festival decided to establish a cinema bridge between Greece and Turkey this year. The Greek party will show Dogtooth by Yorgos Lanthimos, The Pelican by Olivier Horlait (starring Emir Kusturica) and L by Babis Makridis. Turkey will demonstrate Pandora’s Box by Yesim Ustaoglu, Honey by Semih Kaplanoglu, Cosmos by Reha Erdem, Shadows and Faces by Dervis Zaim and Ekotopia by Yuksel Aksu. The Eurasia Film Festival will be held on September 17-22. It is expected that three thousand people will watch the films as part of the Festival according to the organizers’ forecast. Yermek Amanshayev, International Eurasia Film Festival president, said that representatives of different international film institutions will come to the Festival this year. Eric Garandeau, president of the CNC (French National Film and Moving Image Centre), Sergey Tolstikov, Russian national Film Fund head, and The Golden Globe representatives will be among the guests of the Festival.
