Kazakhstani film director Askhat Kuchichirekov’s debut film Benzin Bitti (Gasoline is over) won the Best Film in Muhr AsiaAfrica Short category at the Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF), Tengrinews reports. The short film is set around a boy who dreams of visiting a lake not far from his house. It seems the boy’s dream is about to come true when his father decides to take him to the lake on his car. On their way there the father and the son encounter difficulties and the father struggles to keep his promise. The family drama was filmed in South Kazakhstan Oblast and Zhambyl Oblast. Ondasyn Besikbasov known for his roles in Shal and Tulpan starts in the movie along with the young debuting actor Yelaman Aldabergenov. Director Askhat Kuchinchirekov gained fame for his main role in Sergey Dvorcevoi’s Tulpan. In 2008, he won the Best Actor at the DIFF. The DIFF was initiated by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum in 2004 to present the newest and the most exciting makings of the Arab and the international cinematography. This year, the DIFF celebrated its first big anniversary: the 10th festival was held from December 6 to 14. By Aizhan Tugelbayeva
