Participants of the First National Rock Award show to be held in Almaty on December 2 will duel on electric instruments, Tengrinews.kz reports. A member of Aldaspan band and Angry Ants band’s solo guitarist will play one-on-one at the stage. Maksat Khassanov (Aldaspan) will play electric dombra and Nodar Mashurov (Angry Ants) will set his electric guitar against him. Electric dombra is a completely new musical instrument that appeared only several years ago, organizers of the show say. This makes the duel between electric dombra and electric guitar will be a new experience for the audience. Dombra is a Kazakh national long-necked lute. This musical string instrument exists in the culture of most of the Turkic peoples. At present the rock musicians are rehearsing intensively with a chamber orchestra that consists of 18 people, who play only string instruments. They will perform six songs together during the show. Nissa J and Motor-Roller bands will play with the orchestra. Besides, Ilyas Autov, the lead singer of Motor-Roller, is preparing a new song for the show. The rock bands will play both individually and together with the chamber orchestra. “Every musician has got his or her own unique background, like the Opera Theater or Symphonic orchestra. All musicians are very experienced. At first we wrote music scores base on the existing songs for the string instruments. Then we listened to what we got and analyzed them,” composer Timur Tleukhan said. The show will be held in the Republic Palace at the crossing of Dostyk and Abay streets in Almaty. This stage was chosen because of its good acoustics. “Rock music is a live music. The concert will have live sound only, that’s why the musicians are rehearsing so intensively,” Batyr Kazybayev, Alash Media Group general director said. "Boris Grebenshikov and Aquarium band, who will come to Almaty with a unique program. They will take the second part of the show. This will be the most expanded program that Aquarium band and Boris Grebenshikov has even brought to Almaty. Aquarium will sing all their best songs written since 1970; all their hits,” Batyr Kazybayev said. Boris Grebenshikov is one of the most prominent members of the generation which is widely considered the "founding fathers" of Russian rock music. Due as much to his personal contribution as to the undisputed and lasting success of his main effort, the band Aquarium (active since 1972 until today), he is a household name in Russia. Grebenshchikov is colloquially known as BG after his initials. He is often called as 'Grandfather of Russian Rock'. About 20 Kazakhstan rock bands have been nominated to the First National Rock Music Award. All these bands have taken part in the four seasons of At The Top Of Tengri. The bands have been nominated in the following categories: Man’s vocal, Woman’s vocal, The Best Band, The Best Track, The Best Arrangement, For Faithfulness to Rock, The Best Lyrics, Choice of the Internet. A special commission will choose winners in each category. The jury will consist of prominent Kazakhstan and Russia’s singers and music experts. The Awarding Ceremony of the First National Rock Music Award will take place on December 2 in Almaty in the Republic Palace at the crossing of Dostyk and Abay streets.
