Sportsmen from Almaty who are taking part in the London Olympics can count on getting an apartment for any medal, deputy Akim (Mayor) of Almaty Serik Seidumanov told Tengrinews.kz. He, however, mentioned that the housing will be given only to those who need it. “If a sportsman wins a gold, silver or bronze medal at the London Olympics, the city administration will gift him or her an apartment. However, the housing will be given to those who really need it. If the sportsman already has some real estate, he or she won’t get the apartment,” Seidumanov said and added that 29 sportsmen representing Kazakhstan in London are from Almaty. None of them have won any medals so far. Meanwhile, Almaty oblast administration is getting ready to meet the Olympic champions of 2012 Svetlana Podobedova, Zulfiya Chinshanlo and Maiya Maneza who arrive in Almaty airport on August 8. Akim Ansar Mussakhanov will give a speech. The sportswomen already have apartments in Almaty oblast. The administration gave them the housing in 2010 for their achievements at the international sports arena. According to the press-service of the oblast's administration, the sportswomen will find a special reception with gifts upon arrival to Almaty. Earlier Tengrinews.kz English reports that Kazakhstan sportsmen will get $250 thousand for a gold medal, $150 thousand for a silver medal and $75 thousand for a bronze medal.
