Kazakhstan judoka Maxim Rakov has won the prestigious Grand Slam competition in Baku, Azerbaijan on May 9-11, 2014, Tengrinews reports citing Vesti.kz. He competed in the 100 kg weight league.

Kazakhstan judoka Maxim Rakov has won the prestigious Grand Slam competition in Baku, Azerbaijan on May 9-11, 2014, Tengrinews reports citing Vesti.kz. He competed in the 100 kg weight league.

In the second semi-final Maxim Rakov won over Ramziddin Sayidov from Uzbekistan. In the final round, Maxim Rakov defeated the reigning world title holder Elkhan Mammadov from Azerbaijan.

Maxim Rakov was born in 1986 in Karaganda, Kazakhstan. He is a Honoured Master of Sports of Kazakhstan in judo. Maxim Rakov is also the World Champion of 2009 and the Asian Champion of 2009. He was a front-runner of the 2012 London Olympics, but lost to Azerbaijan judoka Elmar Gasimov in the 1/16 finals.

The Grand Slam competition is organized by the International Judo Federation. Over 250 judokas from 41 countries participated in the Grand Slam competition in Baku.
