Gennady Golovkin will return to the ring on May 16, Tengrinews reports citing Boxingscene.com.

Golovkin’s promoter Tom Loeffler did not name the venue for the fight on May 16. “We want to build off that momentum, keep the same plan of having him active and bring him back to the United States. It looks like it’ll be in Los Angeles, and it will be in May on HBO,” Loeffler told Boxingscene.com.

Last year, Golovkin of Kazakhstan defeated Macro Antonio Rubio at StubHub Center in Carsons, California.

“We have great response from San Antonio where fans have been asking to bring Gennady up there. Las Vegas would be a great market for Gennady,” the promoter added.

It is yet unknown who Golovkin will face in May. Earlier, Loeffler tweeted: “Canelo and Floyd are busy, No bigger fight now for Cotto than unification w ‪@GGGBoxing to see who the real ‪@WBCBoxing Middleweight Champ is.”

In turn, Cotto said that he would do what is best for him. This apparently did not take Golovkin into account. “He (Golovkin) has to wait like anybody. He can do whatever he wants. My career does not depend on Gennady Golovkin. Everything I do will be the best for me. That is what I will do. If that is fighting Gennady Golovkin, I will do it. If not, he can take the middleweight title. He can take it,” Cotto told ESPN.com.
