Kazakhstan boxer Serik Sapiyev is mulling to retire, Tengrinews.kz reports, citing his interview to Bnews.kz. “I signed a contract before the Olympic Games and now I am thinking whether to retire or to continue my professional career. At present I am going to take some rest, to heal my injuries and then we’ll see what to do next. I am very happy and I am proud for my country, because Kazakhstan achieved a lot at these Olympic Games. Kazakhstan boxing national team has made a significant contribution to these victories. Of course, I am very happy about my own success. I am a two-time world champion, however, Olympics victory is a breathtaking dream of every athlete and that’s why a feeling of joy is overwhelming me now. I am so happy for myself, for my relatives, for my team, for my nation, for my country and for the President. All my Olympics rivals are worthy of respect, however, I was well-prepared and was in excellent shape before participation in the Games. First of all this is my personal coach’s and national team’s coaches merit,” Sapiyev said. Serik Sapiyev won a gold medal and became the XXX London Summer Olympic Games champion. Moreover, Sapiyev became the third holder of the Val Barker Trophy (the most prestigious Trophy in world amateur boxing) in the history of Kazakhstan boxing.
