Bike rides are popular in Almaty and are always supported by the city's Mayor Akhmetzhan Yessimov who participates is virtually every one of them. Almaty is the leader among Kazakhstan's cities by the number of races and sport events it holds. And the April 26 race was supposed to become the first bike ride of the season.
Bad weather or not the city's residents are now looking forward to three days of holidays in the beginning of May.
The People’s Unity Day has been celebrated since 1996, but even before that May 1 had always been a day when people enjoyed spring sun outdoors, it was celebrated as the International Worker's Day in Kazakhstan.
