Kazakhstan Prime-Minister Karim Massimov attended the first night of Giacomo Puccini's Manon Lescaut opera at Baisseitova National Opera and Ballet Theater, Prime-Minister's Facebook writes. The opera is staged by stage director from Mariinsky theater and the people's artist Yuriy Aleksandrov. This is the forth Puccini's opera staged by Aleksandrov in Kazakhstan, including Madama ButterflyTosca and Turandot. Honored Artist of Russia Vyacheslav Okunev was the opera's art director, and honored artist of Kazakhstan Abzal Mukhitdinov became its orchestra director. Leading soloists of Baisseitova National Opera and Ballet Theater's opera company as well as Italian soloists took part in the performance. Manon Lescaut was written in 1983. It was first staged in Turin the same year. The opera is based on a novel of Abbas Prevost The History of Manon Lescaut and the Chevalier Des Grieux (L'Histoire du chevalier des Grieux et de Manon Lescaut).
