Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev has congratulated German Chancellor Angela Merkel on the victory of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) in the parliamentary elections, Tengrinews reports citing the President’s press-service. The congratulatory telegram says that the number of votes Chancellor Merkel got shows that her political activities are supported by the community. Nazarbayev noted the Chancellor’s achievements in social-economic sector and in enhancement of Germany’s international role. “I am very pleased to note the fact that the relations between Kazakhstan and Germany have been developing dynamically over the past years. I am confident that in future we will make joint efforts for taking the bilateral cooperation between the countries to a new strategic level,” the telegram says. Nazarbayev wished good health and well-being to Chancellor Merkel and prosperity and peace to the friendly people of Germany. The elections in Germany were held on September 22. The CDU and its Bavarian allies demolished their center-left opponents with what beaming Merkel called a "super-result" of 41.5 percent, its best in 23 years.
