Kazakhstan is a future world farm. The opinion belongs to the country's ex-Minister of Finance Zeinulla Kakimzhanov.

Minister turned businessman and winemaker Kakimzhanov said that agriculture could help Kazakhstan join the ranks of the world leaders. Currently, he said, Kazakhstan uses less than 3% of its agricultural potential, Tengrinews reports citing Astana TV channel.

"Each one of us understands that here comes a time when one of the most limited resources for the existence of modern humanity will be food. This is not far off. And Kazakhstan is the future global farm for the whole world," he said.

Ex-Minister’s words resemble those of the President Nursultan Nazarbayev, who said that agribusiness was the most profitable business in Kazakhstan. On September 2, he advised Kostanai Oblast public representatives and entrepreneurs to step up agricultural production and processing.

In summer, during his working visit to Almaty Oblast on July 11, Nazarbayev said: "Food production is becoming a major factor in the development of our country. The world population will reach 9 billion people by 2050, which will require doubling the production of agricultural products. Kazakhstan has all the prerequisites, including vast areas of land, to fill this niche."

Nazarbayev added that "agriculture cannot develop further without introduction of new technologies" and required the "use the power of science".

In his most recent State-of-the-Nation Address the President said it was necessary to adopt GMO technologies in Kazakhstan.
