Palestinians get 'digital' food, Tengrinews.kz reports citing The World Food Programme (WFP) Executive Director Josette Sheeran. "Digital Food can deliver food to population as food in markets. It is used in Palestine. People can get 9 food items. It will be nutritious and local grown products," Sheeran told at the conference in the frames of 'The World Food Prize' in De Moines, Iowa. As she explained, WFP had been providing the most vulnerable people with e-cards. They could redeem the cards in selected shops. The card enabled them to pick up fresh food such as milk and eggs – items that could not be included into the traditional food basket. "Food can't move to population after farms and it doesn't reach markets. We have food losses. People don't receive enough volume of products. The problem must be solved to feed the hungry and solve the problem of hunger. It is supported by many foundations and donors," continued the WFP Executive Director. Different actions, workshops and conferences related to The World Food Prize are held in Des Moines, IA, these days. This year's World Food Prize will be awarded to John Agyekum Kufuor, former president of Ghana, and Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, former president of Brazil. They have been chosen to jointly receive the Prize for their personal commitment and visionary leadership in creating and implementing government policies to alleviate hunger and poverty in their countries. The ceremony is to be held on October 13.
