Kazakhstan plans to repeat the last year’s harvest by producing 17.2 million tons of grain gross, Tengrinews reports citing the Vice Minister of Agriculture Saparkhan Omarov.

Kazakhstan plans to repeat the last year’s harvest by producing 17.2 million tons of grain gross, Tengrinews reports citing the Vice Minister of Agriculture Saparkhan Omarov.

“Last year, the gross harvest after processing amounted to 17.2 million tons. This year, we plan produce no less than the last year,” Omarov told the journalists during a meeting at the Central Communication Service headquarters.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, South Kazakhstan has already started the sowing campaign. Over 160 thousand hectares have been planted.

“Cultivated area of all agricultural crops this year equals to over 21.5 million hectares. Having said this, the spring sowing area is expected to be around 18.5 million hectares. Out of the 18.5 million hectares, 15.2 million hectares will be allocated to cereal crops. This includes 12.2 million hectares for wheat,” the Ministry said.
