Tengrinews.kz — The Central Election Commission has approved the list of political parties eligible to participate in the elections for the new unicameral parliament, the Kurultai. In total, seven parties have been cleared for the election campaign.

Election contenders

The Central Election Commission has unanimously passed resolutions to grant the following political parties access to the elections:

  • Adilet Party;
  • Auyl Party;
  • Ak Zhol Political Party;
  • National Social Democratic Party (NSDP);
  • Baytaq Greens Party of Kazakhstan;
  • People's Party of Kazakhstan (PPK);
  • Respublica Party.

Amanat withdraws from elections

The Amanat party will not participate in the elections for the new unicameral parliament, the Kurultai. This was announced by CEC Chairman Nurlan Abdirov during a meeting of the Central Election Commission.

"The Central Election Commission has received a letter from the Amanat party regarding its non-participation in the Kurultai elections," Abdirov stated.

It should be noted that the Amanat party had previously announced its intention to merge with the Adilet party. Consequently, on June 14, the Adilet party held its second congress in Astana, where delegates supported Amanat's merger initiative.

Kazakhstan to Adopt Unicameral Parliament

Today, July 1, Kazakhstan officially entered a "new era" as the country's new Constitution came into effect. As of today, the Mazhilis and the Senate have ceased operations, and their deputies have been dissolved.

Under the new Constitution, Kazakhstan's Parliament will become a unicameral body known as the Kurultai.

Elections for the country's new legislative body will be held in late summer. President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev signed the corresponding decree today. The vote is scheduled for August 23..

The Kurultai is a unicameral body that will replace the Senate and the Mazhilis.
