Kazakhstan to Adopt Unicameral Parliament
Today, July 1, Kazakhstan officially entered a "new era" as the country's new Constitution came into effect. As of today, the Mazhilis and the Senate have ceased operations, and their deputies have been dissolved.
Under the new Constitution, Kazakhstan's Parliament will become a unicameral body known as the Kurultai.
Elections for the country's new legislative body will be held in late summer. President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev signed the corresponding decree today. The vote is scheduled for August 23.
