Tengrinews.kz - On February 7, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met with representatives of Kazakhstan’s business community, according to Akorda.

The meeting was centered on the unity between the state and those driving the economy. Tokayev outlined a strategic goal: strengthening the economy to maintain and enhance Kazakhstan’s leading role in the region. He emphasized that this objective should become a key element of the country’s national vision.

The President noted that Kazakhstan has entered an era of new meanings, perspectives, and approaches to addressing modern challenges while leaving behind outdated stereotypes. He stressed the need for the country to undergo a fundamental transformation and adapt to new realities.

"The President believes that the nation’s well-being, particularly that of future generations, depends on addressing these issues. According to him, economic development should prioritize large-scale infrastructure and industrial projects, digitalization and artificial intelligence, as well as advancements in transport and logistics. Meanwhile, support for small and medium-sized businesses will remain a key focus of the government," Akorda’s press service stated.

In his speech, Tokayev underscored the importance of fostering a productive partnership between the government and major business owners to achieve these goals.

"Large-scale business is essential for unlocking Kazakhstan’s economic potential. We need breakthrough projects in infrastructure, industry, and digitalization to elevate our economy to a new level. Major entrepreneurs have the necessary financial resources, workforce, and, most importantly, the knowledge and experience to launch them. At the same time, the focus should extend beyond traditionally attractive investment sectors to explore new areas of growth,” Tokayev stated.

According to the President, given current geopolitical realities and global trade trends, the transport and logistics sector holds immense opportunities. Demand for rail, road, and air transportation is only increasing. In fact, this sector is taking center stage or, as some analysts say, represents a 'golden sector.'

"Another promising industry is tourism. Foreign visitors show great interest in Kazakhstan’s untouched nature, cultural traditions, and historical heritage. The country’s tourism potential is enormous, yet there are still many gaps and shortcomings in its development. Therefore, the government is proposing additional measures to boost investment in this sector," the President added.

During the meeting, Tokayev also instructed the government to further examine the value-added tax (VAT) rate, emphasizing that any changes should be based on thorough analysis and a well-thought-out strategy.

Additionally, he addressed the country’s economic situation, highlighting that Kazakhstan’s financial stability is reaffirmed by high credit ratings with a stable outlook from leading rating agencies.
