Tengrinews.kz — The Ministries of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the United Arab Emirates have signed a Memorandum on the Mutual Recognition and Exchange of Driver's Licenses, citing Polisia.kz.
The memorandum will take effect on July 25 of this year. Kazakhstani tourists will now be able to drive in the UAE using their Kazakhstani driver's licenses.
Additionally, Kazakhstani citizens relocating to the UAE for permanent residence or long-term stays can exchange driver's licenses issued in Kazakhstan without taking exams. However, this applies only to passenger vehicles.
To obtain a license for a bus or truck, the exchange process will follow the regulations of the host country.
To exchange a driver's license, you must:
- obtain a residence permit;
- hold a Category B or B1 driver's license and be at least 18 years old;
- provide an official translation of the driver's license into the official language of the host country;
- undergo a medical examination.
You will also retain your Kazakhstani driver's license after the exchange.
