Tengrinews.kz – Several possible sites for the construction of a new airport are being considered in Astana. This was announced by Deputy Akim of the capital Yersin Otebayev.
According to him, the final location for the second air hub has not yet been determined, but the need for its construction is already evident given the city’s growth.
“There will certainly be a need for a second airport in the near future, considering the growth of the city. But the location has not yet been determined,” Otebayev said on the sidelines of an expanded government meeting.
Specialists are currently studying several directions around the capital:
- the Kosshy area;
- the Karaganda highway direction;
- the Pavlodar highway direction.
As the deputy akim noted, these are preliminary options.
It has not yet been reported when a final decision will be made.
“Work is underway. An expert group is working on this,” Yersin Otebayev added.
As a reminder, in December 2025, Astana Akim Zhenis Kassymbek mentioned the possibility of building a new airport in Astana. According to the mayor, the practice of building several airports is typical for most major world capitals. The capital’s master plan includes promising sites for the possible construction of an air hub.
It was reported that the new air hub was planned to be located along the Karaganda highway.
