Tengrinews.kz – President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev is participating in the Astana International Forum (AIF).
In his speech, the President emphasized that Kazakhstan is investing in human capital by expanding opportunities for young professionals.
“Our top priority is to reduce regional disparities and strengthen the middle class. That is why we continue to build our capacity in key sectors — from digital technologies and artificial intelligence to clean energy and high value-added production,” Tokayev told the forum participants.
He noted that the country places special emphasis on artificial intelligence:
“Our goal is to become an academic and innovation hub, home to branches of foreign universities and research and development partnerships. Kazakhstan is launching the most powerful supercomputer, which has already been delivered to the country,” Tokayev added.
According to the President, Kazakhstan also plans to create an innovative pilot zone called CryptoCity, where cryptocurrencies will be used to buy goods, services, and more.
In February 2024, Tokayev announced at an expanded government meeting that Kazakhstan would build a supercomputer. He emphasized the need for access to data, as well as ensuring its security, confidentiality, and quality.
The government has already created a “data lake” — a collection of 87 national databases.
“We need to turn our country into a magnet for digital nomads from around the world. In short, we must keep up with the times. Our success in all areas depends on how quickly and effectively we develop new digital technologies,” the President said earlier.
Former chairman of National Information Technologies (NIT) Rostislav Konyashkin previously explained what the supercomputer would be used for.
“Simply put, a supercomputer is a set of server equipment — some of which we already use, though built on slightly different technologies. Currently, world leaders in this area are former graphics card manufacturers like AMD and Nvidia. We are talking about acquiring existing technologies used by the world’s most advanced tech companies. As a country, we want to gain this resource, which is not available to just anyone,” Konyashkin explained in the Mazhilis.
