Fallen trees and downed power lines: Aftermath of Almaty’s short storm

Tengrinews.kz - On June 19, around 7:30 p.m., a sudden hurricane-force wind swept through Almaty. Though the storm was brief, it left noticeable damage, according to the city akimat (local government administration).

Tengrinews.kz - On June 19, around 7:30 p.m., a sudden hurricane-force wind swept through Almaty. Though the storm was brief, it left noticeable damage, according to the city akimat (local government administration).

According to the akimat, 17 incidents of large branches falling were recorded, along with several cases of entire trees being toppled, some landing on vehicles. In certain areas, trees and branches damaged power lines and parts of residential buildings.

No injuries were reported.

Photos and videos showing the aftermath of the storm in Almaty and the Almaty region were widely shared on social media.

The city akimat said that municipal services and district emergency units have completed work to cut and remove fallen trees and restore damaged infrastructure.

Earlier, on June 19, a hurricane struck the Pavlodar region. Storm winds damaged bus stops, children’s playgrounds, and uprooted dozens of trees, many of which fell on parked vehicles, causing further destruction. By the morning of June 20, the number of people injured by the hurricane in Pavlodar region reached 16, including children.
