Tengrinews.kz - Authorities in Astana have launched mosquito control measures, according to a statement from the city akimat (local government administration).
In response to an official request, the akimat said the treatment process has been divided into several stages.
"Housing cooperatives (KSK/OSI), maintenance companies, as well as small and medium-sized businesses—including supermarkets, shops, restaurants, and other establishments located on the ground and first floors of apartment buildings—are required to sign contracts with pest control service providers and ensure that treatment is carried out on their premises," the statement reads.
The first round of treatment began on April 23. During this stage, specialists treated Lake Small Taldykol, shallow water bodies, and marshy areas of the city, the area along the bypass ring road, and specific locations where mosquito activity had been detected.
In total, an area of 500 hectares was treated.
Treatment of open areas began on April 28, with a total of 1,000 hectares to be covered.
Authorities stated that biological products safe for aquatic fauna and flora will be used to target mosquito larvae.
