Tengrinews.kz - Kazhydromet has released a forecast for May, detailing what weather conditions Kazakhstanis can expect in the final month of spring.
According to meteorologists, the average air temperature across most of the country will be 1 degree above normal.
Precipitation levels are expected to be below normal in most regions, and around normal in the northwest, north, as well as in the southern parts of the Kyzylorda, Turkestan, and Zhambyl regions, and in the southeast in the Almaty, East Kazakhstan, Zhetysu, and Abai regions.
In the first ten days of May, rain and thunderstorms are expected, along with gusty winds. Dust storms may occur in the southern and southwestern parts of the country. Only on isolated days will the weather be partly cloudy and dry across Kazakhstan.
Average temperatures in May
- In western Kazakhstan: nighttime temperatures will range from +4–9 to +9–14°C, and daytime temperatures from +15–20 to +22–30°C.
- In the southwest: +10–15 to +12–20°C at night, and +20–25 to +25–33°C during the day.
- In the northwest, north, east, and center: +0–5°C at night (with frosts down to -6°C), rising to +8–15°C; daytime temperatures will range from +10–18 to +23–30°C.
- In the southern half of the country: nighttime temperatures will gradually rise from +5–12 to +15–20°C, while daytime temperatures will range from +18–25 to +28–35°C.
During the second and third ten-day periods of May, nighttime temperatures across most of the country will fluctuate between +2–7 and +10–15°C, and daytime temperatures between +10–15 and +25–30°C. Cold anticyclones may still cause frosts at night, down to -6°C in some areas.
In the south and southeast, air temperatures may reach +28–36°C, although hot days will alternate with cooler ones, dropping to +20–25°C. Arctic air masses could lead to ground-level frosts of up to -2°C.
