Tengrinews.kz – Almaty residents have been asked to remain calm on Thursday, May 14, during a test of the alert system.
According to the city’s Department of Emergency Situations, sirens will sound in Almaty at 11:00 a.m. on May 14 as part of a scheduled citywide earthquake drill.
“On the day of the earthquake drill, the city alert system will be activated at 11:00 a.m. through siren and voice warning systems, interruptions of TV and radio broadcasts, and notifications sent via mobile applications,” the Department of Emergency Situations reported.
What to do when the signal sounds
After the sound signal, Almaty residents should turn on the television or radio, or check official online resources and mobile applications. Instructions on what actions to take will be published there.
Preparing for the drill
Almaty residents are advised to prepare an emergency kit in advance and determine a route to the nearest safe place. An open area without buildings or utility lines is considered the safest zone. It is noted that 384 reception points for the population will be set up in Almaty.
The citywide earthquake drill is scheduled, and citizens are asked to remain calm and take an active part.
As a reminder, on February 25, Kazakhstan held the “Koktem 2026” exercises to prepare for the flood season. During the drills, the readiness of the alert system, including all available siren and voice warning devices and electric sirens in the country’s regions, was tested.
