Tengrinews.kz — Municipal services in Almaty have been placed on high alert due to expected heavy rain, according to the city administration.
According to the weather forecast, overcast weather is expected in Almaty on April 16. From 4:00 p.m., intermittent heavy rain of up to 17 mm, thunderstorms, and wind gusts of up to 15–18 m/s are forecast. Daytime temperatures will range from +17 to +19°C.
On April 17, from 11:00 a.m. until the end of the day, heavy rain of up to 12 mm, thunderstorms, and wind strengthening to 18 m/s are also expected. Nighttime temperatures will drop to +8 to +10°C, while daytime temperatures will reach +11 to +13°C.
According to the Department of Public Utilities Infrastructure and Housing Inspection, employees of the municipal enterprise Almaty Tazalyk and contractor organizations are on duty around the clock in the city. For rapid response, 104 units of specialized equipment, 74 motor pumps, and 12 sewage vacuum trucks have been deployed. Nine of them are positioned in areas at risk of flooding.
A total of 75 emergency response teams have been formed, consisting of 425 road workers. 2,300 sandbags have been prepared. The total daily deployment of road services amounts to 2,710 personnel.
In addition, Almaty’s city rescue service is on duty. It has 15 motor pumps and one sewage vacuum truck at its disposal.
Through the Emergency Situations Department, 53 units of equipment and 240 personnel have been deployed.
