Tengrinews.kz - During a meeting with Minister of Transport Marat Karabayev, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev instructed to increase the number of domestic and international flights.
At the meeting at the Akorda residence, President Tokayev was briefed on the Ministry of Transport's performance results for 2024 and plans for the upcoming period.
According to Marat Karabayev, the overall volume of transit across all transport sectors increased by 6 percent in 2024. The construction of three new passenger terminals was completed at the airports of Almaty, Kyzylorda, and Shymkent.
Karabayev reported that Kazakh airlines carried 14.7 million passengers, marking a 10 percent increase, while airports served 29.7 million passengers, up by 14 percent. Railways transported 21 million passengers, reflecting a 3.9 percent increase.
In 2025, the Ministry of Transport plans to launch 19 new air routes to Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. Construction of airports in Katon-Karagai, Zaysan, and Kendirli will begin, along with the modernization of 125 railway stations. The implementation of five major railway projects will continue, including routes such as Dostyk - Moyynty, Almaty bypass, Darbaza - Maktaaral, Ayagoz - Bakhty, and Kyzylzhar - Moyynty.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the President highlighted the need to create more comfortable travel conditions for Kazakhstanis and improve accessibility to tourist destinations.
"The Head of State instructed to increase the number of domestic and international flights, and also to strengthen efforts to attract investments into the transport sector," the Akorda press service reported.
Previously, it was reported that a South Korean low-cost airline launched a new flight route between Almaty and Seoul.
