Sowing season has kicked off in Kazakhstan, Tengrinews.kz reports. “Spring farm works are being implemented as planned. The area under this spring's sowing is to make 18.8 million hectares, with the total area under agricultural crops standing at 21.5 million hectares. Cereal crop will be sewn at 16.3 million hectares and oil-bearing crop at 1.8 million hectares,” Minister of Agriculture Assylzhan Mamytbekov said. According to President of Kazakhstan Grain-Growing Union Nurlan Tleubayev, there will be no lack of grain elevators this year. Speaking of preparation for the new harvest he thanked Prime-Minister Massimov for facilitating all the needed decisions on May 8. As a result “all the participants of the grain market have already started signing transport expenses reimbursement contracts. It is expected that 3 million tons of wheat and 1 million ton of flour (in grain equivalent) will be dispatch under the existing contracts and railroad capacity before September 1. Grain depots of Kazakhstan’s three grain-yielding oblasts are expected to be filled 55-60% this year. However, this is not expected to pose any problem for this year’s harvesting in September since Kazakhstan is expecting an average harvest,” Tleubayev said. According to him, the mass sowing campaign has kicked off in all three main grain-bearing olasts of Kazakhstan (Akmola Oblast, Kostanay Oblast and North Kazakhstan Oblast). The country has faced no difficulties with spring farm works implementation this year, Tleubayev said. “Petroleum came in on time; the funding was arranged correctly, so the farming vehicles were hundred-percent ready. I think the sowing campaign will be finished by June 1,” he said.
