The number of HIV sexual transmissions increased in Kazakhstan, Tengrinews.kz reports citing a press-conference on Necessity of access to methadone replacement therapy in Kazakhstan and results of the pilot projects.
16,412 cases of HIV infection were registered in Kazakhstan as of May 1. The increase made 20% in 2006, and a staggering 43% in 2010.
The growth in the number of sexual transmissions is attributed to the risk group of drug users.
34,394 people are registered in drug rehabilitation centers.
