Route thread: The Palace of Schoolchildren - Palace of the Republic - Hotel "Kazakhstan" - Residential Complex "Three Bogatyrs"
Route description:
Soviet modernism is reflected in the most significant objects in Almaty. The Palace of Schoolchildren has an interesting layout; its curves are nothing more than a "spiral of the galaxy", because, after all, the project was once planned as a space museum.
"Arman" cinema is a unique structure that is part of the architectural ensemble of Abai Square and the complex development ensemble of Dostyk Avenue. This cinema is the last of the freestanding cinemas in the city that remains almost intact from its original appearance.
A little north of this palace along Dostyk Avenue is the Palace of the Republic, the most beautiful building in Soviet Alma-Ata. Its curved roof resembles the canopy of a yurt and the edges of a Kazakh headdress.
Next to it is the first 26-floor building of the USSR, the Kazakhstan Hotel, which was built in a zone of 9-point seismicity.
The "Three Bogatyrs" residential complex is located further to the north along Dostyk Avenue. The proximity of these three objects to each other while standing above the avenue helps preserve their seismic resistance.
