Gorelnik Gorge
Location: Gorelnik Gorge is located on the western slope of the Maloalmatinsky Gorge. The route to it starts at the “Gorelnik” bus stop. You can get to it by eco-bus from the Medeu ice rink or walk up.
What’s interesting about it? The gorge received its unusual name as a result of a fire in the 1930s of the 20th century. At that time, there was a camp where climbers were trained. During the Great Patriotic War, they trained mountain riflemen for the Soviet army. Now, this picturesque place attracts locals and tourists who want to rest near the small and large waterfalls and relax in the thermal springs. You can also use barrels with hot and cold water, a shower, and a sports field here. Nearby, you can find the “Gorelnik” visitor center.
What to see?
You can visit both waterfalls in one trip, which are located at different ends of a small fork. There is also a beautiful meadow called the Eagle's Nest, which offers a beautiful view of the entire gorge and waterfalls. The length of the path to the Eagle's Nest is 16 kilometers, but you can limit your trip by visiting the waterfalls only.
When is the best time to visit?
The gorge is most picturesque in the summer, but you can also visit it in the winter when it is much more pleasant to dip into the hot springs.
