What’s interesting about it?

Shokan Ualikhanov is the first Kazakh scientist-educator. As a Central Asia and Eastern Turkestan researcher, his scientific achievements have received worldwide recognition. Shokan Ualikhanov lived only 30 years, dying in 1865, but his works became an integral part of the literature for scientists studying the history, geography, and ethnography of the peoples of Central Asia and Kazakhstan.

What to see?

The 8-meter sculpture rises in the middle of a small square with a fountain and marble benches. On the reverse side of the pedestal, there are Kazakh national ornaments and images associated with Ualikhanov. The side surfaces are lined with ornamented tiles. On the opposite side of the monument is the National Academy of Sciences of Kazakhstan.

When is the best time to visit?

You can feel the atmosphere of the place and get acquainted with the rich heritage of Shokan Ualikhanov here at any time of the year. The square is most crowded during city events since the area in front of the Academy of Sciences is often used for fairs and other events.
