Location: You can go to Kumbel Peak through the Kok-Zhailau or Gorelnik gorges.

What’s interesting about it?

Kumbel Peak, 3,230 meters above sea level, is one of the most prominent peaks of the Trans-Ili Alatau. Its characteristic feature is the absence of permanent snow covers, which is probably the reason for the name “Kumbel,” which is translated from Kazakh as “sandy back” or “ridge.”

What to see?

On the way there, travelers can enjoy views of Titov, Tereshkova, Talgar, Nursultan, and other peaks. Travel through a convenient serpentine road; along the way, you can stock up on water from the river and relax at the Gorelnik waterfalls or Kok-Zhailau Plateau. The route includes the Three Brothers Peak, which you can climb before or after Kumbel, depending on the direction of the hike.

Don’t forget that towards the end of the path, there are “imaginary peaks” - piles of large stones that create the illusion that the goal has already been achieved. At the very top, you can take a break for a photo.

When is the best time to visit?

Climbing Kumbel Peak is one of the most accessible hikes for tourists in the summer. In the winter, climbing becomes more difficult due to heavy snowfall on the slopes.
