What’s interesting about it?

The Nedelka Fountain got its name because of its seven metal arches topped with elegant hanging lanterns that “float” above the water cascades. They symbolize the seven days of the week. Since 1972, this place has become a popular place among informal youth. The fountain is still a popular place for walks and one of the attractions of the Golden Square area.

What kind of entertainment is there?

Here, you can hide from the heat and relax in the shade of the trees, enjoying the view of the fountain. Nearby are the Abai Opera House, busts of Mukhtar Auezov and Zhambyl Zhabayev, and one of the oldest Almaty cafes, “Karlygash,” designed by the legendary architect Malgabar Mendikulov. Opposite the fountain is the Almaty Hotel, built in 1967. Before the construction of the Kazakhstan Hotel, the Almaty Hotel was the main hotel in the country.

When is the best time to visit?

The fountain season in Almaty lasts from May 1 to October 1. They are open daily from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. The “Nedelka” fountain looks especially advantageous in the evening, and the lighting creates a unique atmosphere.
