The Almaty Metro
What’s interesting about it?
The Almaty metro is the youngest in the CIS and consists of 11 stations built in an L-shaped line. The metro starts from the Raiymbek Batyr station at the intersection of Nazarbayev and Raiymbek Avenues, and it ends at the Bauyrzhan Momyshuly station at the crossing of Abay Avenue and Momyshuly Street. During rush hour, the metro is the most convenient way to quickly move around Almaty, especially if you need to get from the eastern part of the city to the western and vice versa.
What kind of entertainment is there?
The Almaty metro is often included in city tours, attracting people, first of all, with the elegant design of the stations. So, for example, the deepest metro station, “Abai” (78 meters), has an exquisite interior. The walls and floor of the station are decorated with beige and brown marble. There is a magnificent bronze panel using Florentine mosaics at the end of the platform. This panel shows a relief of Abai Kunanbayev, surrounded by passages from the works of the great poet.
When is the best time to visit?
