“Shymbulak” Ski Resort

Location: The easiest way to get there is by cable car, which starts at the Medeu sports complex. Only electric transport is allowed into the resort area.

What’s interesting about it?

This resort is the most popular place in Kazakhstan among winter sports enthusiasts. Shymbulak is located in the picturesque gorge of the Trans-Ili Alatau at an altitude of 2,260 meters above sea level.

What kind of entertainment is there?

Climbing from the Medeu tract will allow you to enjoy the picturesque views of the Trans-Ili Alatau mountains. The Combi-1 lift takes you from the base station of the resort at an altitude of 2,200 meters to the transfer station at an altitude of 2,800 meters. Combi-2 allows you to climb to the second level of the slopes. At the end of the route, you can go towards the Talgar Pass to enjoy an alternative ski slope (Left Talgar) equipped with a chairlift. There is also a “KKD-4” chairlift, which takes you to Mount Cone from the base station of the resort. This trail is used mainly by advanced skiers and snowboarders. The total length of the tracks is more than 20 kilometers.

When is the best time to visit?

For winter sports, the season in Almaty usually starts in late November or December and continues until the end of March, depending on weather conditions. During the warm season, you can enjoy hiking, picnics, and horse riding.
