Almaty State Puppet Theater

What’s interesting about it?

The oldest puppet theater in Kazakhstan was founded in 1935. There is an element of interactivity in almost every performance here. Little spectators can answer questions and even participate in the events taking place on stage.

What kind of entertainment is there?

The theater’s repertoire includes such performances as “The Incredible Adventures of Akbay,” “Er Tostik,” “River of Life” with songs by Shamshi Kaldayakov, “The Wolf and the Seven Little Goats,” and “Geese-Swans.” Children directly interact with the actors, sing, go on stage, and sometimes even participate in games such as tug of war. There are also informational and educational performances in which artists talk about a healthy lifestyle, proper nutrition, fire safety, and traffic rules.

Master classes are also held for children; they show fairy tales in Russian and Kazakh that describe how dolls were created. Design artists also teach children how to make their own dolls.
