State Literary and Memorial Museum Complex of S. Mukanov and G. Musrepov

Location: Tulebaev Street, 125.

What’s interesting about it?

Gabit Musrepov and Sabit Mukanov are bright figures who significantly influenced Kazakh literature, giving them unique features. In their works, they conveyed not only the inner world of their contemporaries but also reflected the evolution of social thinking in the conditions of social change. Their heritage is not just fascinating stories but a living history of Kazakhstan, outlined by the masterful pen of talented authors.

The museum's exhibition embodies writers’ lives and creative paths through their youth, study, and formation as literary figures, along with their socio-political activity. The exhibition presents documentary materials, manuscripts of works, diaries, and collections of works by writers translated into more than 50 world languages.

The memorial part of the museum covers the study room, library, living room, and bedroom. All these premises have been preserved in the same condition they were in during the writers’ lives. One of the most important exhibits is the knife of the Kazakh scientist Shokan Ualikhanov. It was here, in these rooms, that Mukanov created his novel about Shokan.

How did it appear?

The complex appeared in 1999 based on two existing museums: Mukanov’s (opened on November 21, 1978) and Musrepov’s (opened in May 1987). They had been friends since childhood and were literature partners in adulthood.

How to visit?

The complex is open from Tuesday to Saturday from 10.00 until 18.00. The ticket price is 100 tenge.
