Almaty Central Mosque

What’s interesting about it?

The Central Mosque of Almaty is one of the most important Muslim temples in the country and can accommodate up to 7,000 visitors. Inside the mosque are women's and men's halls, places for reading the Koran, rooms for marriage, and Islamic lessons. The main dome has a golden color. In the very center of the temple is a crystal chandelier weighing almost two tons. Inner rooms are decorated with verses from the Koran, and the doors are carved in the form of national ornaments.

How did it appear?

The central mosque of Almaty was built in six years, from 1993 to 1999, on the location of the Tatar mosque, which was built at the end of the 19th century. White marble was used for construction. There are five minarets, including the main one, which rises 47 meters and is connected to the mosque by a two-story passage.

How to visit?

To visit a mosque, you must follow some rules: wear clothing with good coverage and remain silent. Before visiting the temple, you should think in advance about the times when prayer is not performed. It will allow you to freely enjoy the interior decoration and not cause any inconvenience during prayers.
