Yerlan Sadykov appointed rector of Gumilyov Eurasian National University (ENU), Tengrinews.kz reports citing Kazakhstan President’s website. Earlier Sadykov headed Semipalatinsk State University. Rector of Semipalatinsk State University became famous last year. He initiated the national referendum to prolong Nursultan Nazarbayev’s presidential term. Sadykov headed the initiative group and started collecting signatures. The Parliament supported the idea and adopted a law on referendum. However, the Constitutional Coucil and the President stood against the referendum in favor of traditional elections. Earlier Eurasian National University was headed by Bakhytzhan Abdraimov.
