Creation of the CES (Common Economic Space) energy market was discussed in Astana last week, Tengrinews reports. “There are European examples. In our case everything is suffeciently developed and nobody has been seating back doing nothing during these years. We have all been working and developing our energy sectors amid the existing economic conditions. But as at turns out, energy prices in our three countries are nowhere near being similar. Integration and common policies would require making certain recommendations to the governments, as integration is not possible without that. We have eliminated customs checks and simplified trade procedures. So why are the prices high in Belarus? That’s because their energy sources are expensive. We have to settle the issue of prices,” President of Russian Financial-Industrial Groups Association Oleg Soskovets said at the conference on the prospects of the energy of the future in the regional integration during the 8th KAZENERGY Eurasian Forum. According to Kazakhstan Vice-Minister of Economy and Budget Planning Marat Kussainov, there is also a range of conceptual issues that have to be dealt with to make creation of the common energy market possible. “Common energy market is only at the discussion stage and there are many conceptual issues that have to be resolved here. We had a very active discussion today. But we cannot make any conclusions yet. The work on this issue is underway and the concept is being prepared,” Kussainov said. The Eurasian Economic Commission stated earlier that it was ready to accelerate preparation of the program on creation of the common energy market of the Common Economic Space countries. “Our task is to prepare the program for creation of the common energy market of the Common Economic Space member-countries by January 1, 2015. If the Presidents decide to accelerate this process, we can do it,” member of the Energy and Infrastructure Commission of the Eurasian Economic Commission Danial Akhmetov said. By Baubek Konyrov
