Kazakhstan’s Majilis Deputy Vladislav Kosarev has taken part in the Ice Bucket Challenge, Tengrinews reports citing Kazpravda.

Celebrities, politicians, athletes and many others all around the world are taking part in the Ice Bucket Challenge by pouring a bucket of ice water on their heads, and Kazakhstanis have not remained uninvolved in the new campaign that went viral on the Internet.

The main goal of the campaign is to raise awareness about ASL disease that attacks nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord, and may lead to paralysis and death. Nearly two deaths per hundred thousand population annually occurs due to ALS disease, ALS Association reports.

However, just pouring cold water is not enough, a donation to a good cause, which in this case is ALS (Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis or motor neurone disease) research, is part of the project.

Besides doing both of these, the participant challenges two or three people to do the same in 24 hours.

Whether people choose to donate, perform the challenge, or do both varies from case to case. There are two options: the participant pours the ice water over the head and donates $10 for ALS research or rejects the challenge and donates $100. However, some participants do both. The challenge has raised $53.3 million so far, and hopefully, this is not the end.

“I am Vladislav Kosarev. I accept the Ice Bucket Challenge in Kazakhstan. I call out my friends Maira Aisina, Gani Kassymov, Abay Tasbulatov and many others who watch this video to follow my example. (…) I urge everyone to befriend cold water and take care of their health. I donate 10,000 ($54.95) tenge to the Chidren’s Foundation of Aruzhan Sain,” Vladislav Kosarev said.
