Tengrinews.kz - Kazakhstanis were among the foreign citizens deported from the US in 2024. However, their number remains insignificant compared to migrants from other countries in the region.
Earlier, the media reported on the expulsion of 369 Kazakhstanis from the US. This was reported by the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) back in December 2024, reporting on data relevant as of November. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan noted that the deportation of 369 Kazakhstanis has nothing to do with the new US migration policy announced by Donald Trump.
We decided to find out how many Kazakhs were arrested and deported from the United States in 2024 for violating immigration rules. The ICE website does not yet have full statistics for the year, but data is available as of September 2024 (updates are published with a one-quarter delay, so the final figures will appear later).
In the first nine months of 2024, the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested 13 citizens of Kazakhstan. From October 2020 to September 2024, a total of 106 Kazakhstanis were arrested, mostly in Los Angeles, New York, and San Francisco.
By comparison, during the same period, 1,407 Russians, 749 citizens of Uzbekistan, 344 Ukrainians, and 74 citizens of Kyrgyzstan were arrested. Mexican citizens - 143,986 people.
In 2024, the service deported 23 citizens of Kazakhstan. From October 2020 to September 2024, 63 Kazakhstanis were deported.
During the same period, 841 Russians, 736 Uzbeks, 92 Kyrgyz citizens, 153 Ukrainians, and 206,943 Mexicans were deported.
Earlier, the Embassy of Kazakhstan in the United States made a statement in connection with the tightening of US migration policy. Kazakhstanis in the United States were called upon to comply with the current requirements of the American authorities.
Policies that have been in effect since 2025, with Trump coming to power:
- The "Remain in Mexico" policy has been restored - migrants crossing the US-Mexico border and applying for asylum in the US are required to remain in Mexico while their case is being considered by US immigration courts.
- The "catch and release" scheme has been terminated, which means the end of the practice in which detained migrants who illegally crossed the US border were released inside the country until the date of their trial. These migrants will either be held in designated facilities, returned to their countries of origin, or sent to third countries (e.g., under the Remain in Mexico program).
- Discontinued use of the CBP One app as a method of parole or entry facilitation for aliens who would otherwise be inadmissible to the United States.
