Tengrinews.kz – China has issued a new warning due to ongoing heavy rains following devastating floods, according to Xinhua.
On Sunday, June 29, the National Meteorological Service of China issued a "yellow" alert for heavy rainfall in certain regions of the country.
"According to the National Meteorological Center (NMC), from 8:00 a.m. Sunday to 8:00 a.m. Monday, heavy rains are expected in parts of the provinces of Sichuan, Gansu, Shaanxi, Hubei, Zhejiang, Fujian, Anhui, Jiangsu, Shandong, Hebei, Liaoning, as well as in the city of Chongqing," the report said.
In some areas of the Sichuan Basin, daily precipitation is expected to exceed 300 millimeters.
"The NMC advised local authorities to be prepared for possible flooding and to implement proper drainage measures in urban areas and farmlands. It also stressed the need to stay alert for secondary natural disasters, including mountain torrents, geological hazards, and flooding of small and medium rivers," the statement added.
In Rongjiang County, located in southwest China, the danger level was again raised to the highest emergency response level due to renewed flooding.
"Severe flooding has once again hit Rongjiang County in Guizhou Province (Southwest China), prompting local authorities to reinstate the highest-level emergency response," the report said.
Local authorities continue evacuating residents from affected areas to safer locations.
China uses a four-tier warning system for adverse weather conditions: red is the highest level, followed by orange, yellow, and blue.
For reference, since June 24, massive flooding began in southwest China due to prolonged rains, forcing the evacuation of over 80,000 people.
