Weightlifter Farkhad Kharki has won the first gold for Kazakhstan at the Universiade in Kazan, Tatarstan, Russia, Vesti.kz reports. Kharky won over his Chinese rival in the -62kg weight class finals. The weightlifters lifted the total of 306 kilograms in two competition lifts each, but the Kazakhstan athlete was lighter than his Chinese competitor. Kharki set a new record of the competition in the clean and jerk by completing 171 kilograms. Kharki took silver in his weight division at the Asian Weightlifting Championship that was held in June in Astana, Kazakhstan. Olympic champion Kim Un Guk from China won the gold. Kazakhstan athletes have won 5 medals at the Universiade so far. The gold was brought by weightlifter Farkhad Kharki. Fencer Ruslan Kurbanov and belt wrestler Moldashev Dimash took silver medals. Ayan Yermekbayev and Gulnur Yerbolova won bronze medals in belt wrestling. Kazakhstan has moved up to the 12th place in the updated general ranking. Russia is still the leader of the ranking with a total of 46 medals (21 gold, 9 silver, 16 bronze). Then goes Japan with a total of 15 medals and Ukraine that also has 15 medals.
