Kazakhstan team Astana is one of top three leaders of 14 stages of Dakar race, Tengrinews.kz reports. The crew led by Arthur Ardavichus was the fifth at the final stage of the race. The shortest stage of Dakar was won by Italian racer Miki Biasion. He was followed by Ilgizar Mardeev from Russian and Dutch racer Hans Stacey. Another Dutch racer Gerard De Rooy won in the general classification. He is 51 minutes 19 seconds ahead of the second leader Hans Stacey. Despite of forecasts of many experts, Astana crew won the third place. “This is really a big victory for Astana team and for the whole Kazakhstan. Starting the race at the 33rd place, we managed to join the leaders and show stable results almost at all the stages of the race,” Kazakhstan pilot commented the team’s success. Before Dakar Ardavichus was planning to repeat last year’s result, when Astana was ranked 8th at its first Dakar race. Another Kazakhstan team took part in the race this year: Kazakhstan team led by Denis Berezovskiy in the offroaders class was ranked 68th. Stephane Peterhansel won the race in this class.
