Kazakhstan developers presented innovative projects in green energy and information technologies at the state science and technologies achievements fair ESI-2013 held in Almaty in mid April, Tengrinews.kz reports. The exhibition was part of the Forum called Kazakhstan-2050 strategy: Education, science, innovations. The developments in green energy are the most important projects since the EXPO-2017 fair is nearing. Researches of Al-Farabi Kazakh State University presented a compact multi-storey wind power plants. It is made of a multi-layer block with wind turbines of different types installed on different layer. The turbines are based on the Darreus rotor (where rotation axis is perpendicular to air flow) and Savonius rotor (rotor with two semi-cylindric blades). The power station is a good way to save land and rationally use wind energy. There are no similar pants anywhere in the world. Pavlodar State University suggested a project in renewable energy as well. The university developed a hidro power plant working at weak river flows. The power station does not require construction of expensive dams or flooding territories. The station includes a closed-loop conveyor with blades activated by natural river flow. IT and robotics sector was represented by special-purpose unmanned drones. According to the developer, Network Technologies Laboratory, the drone can cruise along a set route in autonomous mode. The drone is able to collect and transfer information while in the air. It is is aimed for use in dangerous situations and hazardous conditions. The project may be interesting for military bodies, emergency situations and near-border control services. The Institute of IT and Management Problems presented a voice recognition software for the Kazakh language. The soft is capable to convert voice into text. The system is aimed for development of communications in Kazakh. It can also improve use of computers by disabled people in Kazakhstan. The plan is to adapt the software for smartphones and tablets. Kazakhstan is putting a lot of emphasis on development of innovative technologies. Earlier Tengrinews.kz English reported that 10 best Kazakhstan’s startups would be sent to the Silicon Valley for further development and search of financing. Besides, the Ministry of Industry and New Technologies signed a memorandum with Plug and Play company and agreements with venture funds and major universities. By Dmitriy Khegai
