The large spherical facility that is the main venue of the EXPO-2017 complex in Astana has still not been named, Tengrinews reports.
Famous economist Jeremy Rifkin proposed to name the architectural piece Yelbasy (President in Kazakh) last October.
"The idea came from a famous American economist Jeremy Rifkin, who is one of the gurus of the green economy. It was his proposal to name the sphere Yelbasy. But the final decision has not been made yet. And I cannot say whether the idea will be accepted or not," the Minister of Environment and Water Resources and Chairman of Astana EXPO-2017 national company Nurlan Kapparov said during yesterday's press-briefing in the Central Communications Service.
In 2013 Jeremy Rifkin said: "The sphere will be the center of the international exhibition EXPO-2017. I have proposed to create the Biosphere Research Center as part of the Nazarbayev University and made the sphere it headquarters. You have a term Yelbasy (President) in Kazakh and the sphere could be named after your Yelbasy. It might later become a symbol of a new humanity that is a united community living in harmony with the planet and with each other. It is an excellent future venture."
